Bartleby has the power of Very Vague Omnipotence. For a tl;dr-ish run down:

And what does this mean for you? If it's okay for Bartleby to poke into your character's past, say so here! Mind that Bartleby isn't one to use the information unless pressed, and will probably talk to your character like he doesn't know their past, anyway. As it stands, he can only know about someone when he actively looks for the information, anyway, and to do that, you'd have to have a reason for him to want to look. So if you want Bartleby to poke around in your character's past, say so here! It's a good device for a plot, seeing as he rarely uses the information for anything but; he prefers to talk, and omnipotence kills conversation :(
